Second Chance Gallery was founded in 2015 by Johann Unterholzvogel as an independent space of artistic redemption.

The gallery was created in direct opposition to the logic of consumption of contemporary art, and to the myth of the one-way successful career of artists. Failure permeates our daily lives, and artistic creation itself is subject to it. Why in the musical or literary field are we more open to rewarding meteoric talents or individual works, while in the artistic field every piece seems to be solely functional for creating the artist's brand and filling a sufficient number of collectors' salons? Why can't we also celebrate a brief and singular moment of inspiration that may never be repeated?

With this idea in mind Johann set himself the objective of re-evaluating artists excluded from the traditional contemporary market by offering them a second opportunity. This approach has proven successful and the gallery in 2024 is planning to move to Berlin to expand its spaces and come into contact with the big local community of artists, struggling with their own croocked careers.
